ทอดผ้าป่าลำพูน ๒๒ กรกฎาคม ๒๕๕๖ (3)
กรรมการวัด หมู่บ้านหนองไซ ร่วมกับ อบต. ป่าสัก จัด กลองสะบัดชัย แบบล้านนา มาร่วมงานด้วย นักแสดงหลายคน อยู่ในหมู่บ้านนี้เอง
หลังจากรำโชว์ (ซึ่งผมก็ให้ทิปทั้งคณะไปด้วย) ก็เป็นการแห่ผ้าป่ารอบโบสถ์ ๓ รอบ

ทอดผ้าป่าลำพูน ๒๒ กรกฎาคม ๒๕๕๖ (2)
เมื่อไปถึง ชาวบ้านก็เลี้ยงข้าวกลางวัน
พวกเราบอกให้เตรียมไว้ง่ายๆ กับข้าวพื้นบ้าน สามสี่อย่าง แต่อร่อยมาก
กินข้าวนึ่ง (ข้าวเหนียว) หรือ ข้าวเจ้า ขนมจีนก็มี
อิ่มแปล้
ชาวบ้านช่วยเตรียมแคร่ใส่องค์ผ้าป่าไว้ให้ และหากิ่งมะขามเสียบเตรียมไว้ให้เราด้วย สำหรับพาดผ้าถวายของเรา ที่จะให้พระภิกษุไปชักผ้าตอนทำพิธี นอกจากนี้มีไตรจีวรครบชุดถวายพระอีกต่างหาก และมีผ้าห่ม เครื่องกันหนาวต่างๆ อีก
ต้นไม้เสียบธนบัตรที่เห็น เป็นของชาวบ้านบริจาคสมทบ เงินของพวกเราตอนนั้นผมยังไม่ได้นำออกมา เพราะเกรงจะไม่ปลอดภัย ภายหลังจึงจะนำออกมาใส่พานถวายพระในพระอุโบสถ ตอนทำพิธี

ผม ภรรยา และเพื่อนๆ ชาวลำพูน และ เชียงใหม่ ไปทอดผ้าป่า วัดหนองไซ อ. เมือง จ. ลำพูน เพื่อช่วยสร้างศาลาที่ค้างคาอยู่ให้เสร็จ เมื่อวันที่ ๒๒ กรกฎาคม พ.ศ. ๒๕๕๖
เพิ่งเห็นว่า การก่อสร้างมีความก้าวหน้า ศาลาสร้างไปได้ประมาณครึ่งหนึ่งแล้ว เพิ่งได้รับบริจาคกระเบื้องมา จึงเพิ่งมุงหลังคาไป และก่อกำแพงด้านหลัง กรรมการวัดบอกว่า ตอนนี้เงินวัดหมดพอดี
นอกจากเงินบริจาคของเพื่อนๆ และครอบครัว ท่านที่เคารพนับถือของผมและภรรยา รวมเป็นเงินสดที่ถวายไปในวันนั้น ๒๐๕,๔๗๐ บาท
ของถวายเป็นบริวาร รวมทั้งไตร จีวร ผ้าอาบ เทียนพรรษา ยา ฯลฯ ที่นำไปจากกรุงเทพฯ อยู่ท้ายรถ อ. เพียงจันทร์ ร่วมกับ คุณอนุรักษ์ (โจ) เป็นเจ้าภาพ

Fund raising money to continue a Sala construction
A small Wat (Buddhist temple) in the village where I will build my house has started a sala construction few years ago and it's only 50% finished so far. It is going to be an open pavilion with no wall which would be used by villagers for various community purposes. The abbot had asked me and my wife for help. From the beginning, I knew I could not fulfill his wish to complete the project, nevertheless I thought we could raise some money to keep the construction work continued.
So I have come up with a small fund raising among my close friends, colleagues and former students, and their relatives. So far I have received donation of around 120K Baht. The abbot still needs 10x as much to finish his project. We still have 2 weeks to go before the scheduled money handling to him in a 'forest-cloth placing ceremony' or 'Thod Phapa' ทอดผ้าป่า ceremony as we Thai call it. But I think that's about all we could help the abbot. I am not a businessman but a former academic, and academic people are not rich. My Ph.D. advisor once told me, as I vividly recalled, 'being an academic, you don't expect yourself to get rich'. I also recall my small disappointment upon hearing that 25 years ago.
In a Buddhist custom, when I told of a merit-making task like this to someone, I meant to share good news for them to be pleased with me and explicitly say "good job or well done, and I am pleased to hear that". In Pali, we have the words "Sathu, & Anumodhami", which meant so. So if you are pleased reading this blog entry, please recite the Pali phrase as well, so that your mind can record a deep happiness in its eternal stream.

Starting a new blog
Normally I think starting a new blog is a bit wasted. While some older blogs of mine had been closed for good, I still have 4 other remained opened, yet opening a fifth one might cause my existing blogs to be updated less and less frequent. Perhaps not. I think opening a new blog, might make scopes of each blog narrower and be more interesting.
Having said that, I 'd like to make this blog a bit more personal, reflecting about my life and my ideas. Of course, those have to be socially acceptable and informative. Perhaps some of my friends and former colleages might be interested to get some updates about me. For now, I don't use social media much and for a 'certain one', not at all. I try to limit my 'sending out' the mind', i.e. thinking about external matters, rarer events. That's considered a 'no-no' for Vipassana-practicing meditators. So using a blog is a compromise, for now.
